Vecna: Eve of Ruin
Research: The Rod of Seven Parts - Part One
In times of great needThe Rod of Seven Parts
Eons ago, a war between the primordials and the gods scarred the planes of existence. A demon lord named Miska the Wolf-Spider eventually pushed the primordials’ enemies to the brink of annihilation.
Desperate to save themselves and their allies, powerful elemental beings called the Wind Dukes of Aaqa rose against Miska. Committed to the concept of law, the Wind Dukes descended from a people called the Vaati, who once ruled many worlds. Using the Soulforge of Moradin in Torzak-Belgirn, Seven Wind Dukes wove their power into an artifact called the Rod of Law.
The dukes used the rod to imprison Miska on the plane of Pandemonium during the battle of the Fields of Pesh. When Miska was stabbed with the rod, the chaos from its blood shattered the rod into seven pieces and scattered them across the multiverse. The rod thus became known as the Rod of Seven Parts.
Fragments of the rod would sometime surface here and there, often in times of great need. Due to their lawful nature, the fragments did not appear damaged but instead displayed intricate patterns of crystalline facets on each breaking point. The rod, when complete, was five feet long.
Posessing the Broken Rod
The rod can’t be attuned to while it is broken. While holding one piece of the broken rod, you know the general location of the next consecutive piece, as the rod yearns to be a complete artifact. Multiple rod pieces can be assembled into one piece or disassembled again, each requiring an action, although a partially complete rod doesn’t gain any other abilities.
Additionally, while holding one piece of the broken rod, you can use an action to cast the spell associated with that piece. Once that piece of the rod has been used to cast a spell, it can’t be used that way again until the next dawn.
Part One: The Tip

This ten centimetre piece consists of an emerald green crystal fixed into a metal plate. From the base of the metalwork the crystal emerges in precise square shards that look like would fit snugly into another part.
The crystal is etched with arcane divination symbols, and when activated radiates great power.
The command word used by Allustriel is: RUAT
When activated you can cast the following spell: Commune:
You contact your deity or a divine proxy and ask up to three questions that can be answered with a yes or no. You must ask your questions before the spell ends. You receive a correct answer for each question.
Divine beings aren’t necessarily omniscient, so you might receive “unclear” as an answer if a question pertains to information that lies beyond the deity’s knowledge. In a case where a one-word answer could be misleading or contrary to the deity’s interests, the GM might offer a short phrase as an answer instead.
If you cast the spell two or more times before finishing your next long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each casting after the first that you get no answer.
